The Brady Bunch - Time to Change

I heard this song sung on the "Ask Me Another" podcast the other day. It was part of a game.

Faith Hill - This Kiss

Not sure where this came from. I don't like country music. I don't listen to it. I must have heard it in a commercial or movie or something. Agh. I hate that this song is in my head.

Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl

My posting to this site has been spotty of late. Life (and death) will do that sometimes.
When I lived in SC I was in a band called Montage. We did a cover of this song. It is fresh on my brain because I heard it on a podcast called "Sound Opinions" last week.

Mamma Mia - Thank You For The Music

Sarah's mom passed away several days ago. We used this song in a slideshow celebrating her life. It's been in my head a lot.

Juliana Hatfield - Cool Rock Boy

For the first time ever, I couldn't find a video for a song. If you're curious, go to Spotify or some other music player and give it a listen.

Xavier Cugat - Brazil

This song was in my head but maybe not this exact arrangement...but this one is close enough.

Grandmaster Flash - The Message

To be perfectly honest, this song was rolling around as a mash-up w/ Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" but I refuse to put that video on my blog. Can't imagine where I heard that. Ugh.

Baby It's Cold Outside

Woke up w/ the music from the "Hoodlum Rock" episode of WKRP in Cincinnati in my head but I couldn't find a video to share. Dozed again then woke up with this song. It's not quite fall but it's getting there. Maybe this is my brain getting ready.

White Heart - You're the One

I've been surprised that the religious music from my past hasn't popped up more on this blog. But, lo and behold, here's an 80s Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) classic for you. White Heart was one of my fave bands for a time. They popped up when I was starving for something with slick production and fantastic musicianship. These guys were all great musicians and went on to prove it in their various iterations throughout the years. I love Dann Huff as a guitarist and vocalist. His stadium-rock band Giant is another one of my faves from the past.

Missing Persons - Words

I have this song as my text ringtone. Probably a mistake but it's better than those annoying jingle jangles that come with the phone. Besides, I think the song has something to say about texting vs. talking. "What are words for when no one's talking anymore."

Peter, Paul & Mary - Puff the Magic Dragon

A local radio station created a game jingle using the tune of this song...and that is why it was in my head.

Bette Midler - From a Distance

I blame the girls that work in the costume shop at work for this one. I walked in the other day and this was playing. Bleah.

The King & I - Shall We Dance

I didn't wake up with this song in my head but it did figure in a dream. I can't put together a timeline for the dreams I had last night so here are some bullet points. In my dream last night... - I had a super close friendship with Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson. At one point in the dream, I am dancing the "Shall We Dance" number w/ Foster and she gets ill. I pick her up and take her to the hospital. That's where Mel comes in. He's there in the waiting room as we wait for news about her condition. - Same dream, different dream...I don't know. In this vignette, I am at a religious event (perhaps a convention) and I see an old friend. We hug and cry...a lot. I'm not one to try and interpret dreams but I'm fairly certain I know what some of this is about. In the first dream, I have an impression that the friendship I had w/ these 2 celebrities was super tight. I haven't had a friendship like that in a long, long time. I think the dream is a manifestation of my desire for that type of friendship. Why it was Foster and Gibson, I have no idea. The other is probably just me missing friendships from the past. The friend in the dream isn't someone I had a falling out with. We just went in different directions. But I miss my old friends and the close relationships we had. So, there you go. Whether my interpretations are correct or not, that's my two cents.

Melissa Manchester - Don't Cry Out Loud

Good or bad, I always tell the truth. Not sure where this one came from...and...I think it's the 2nd appearance. Brains are weird, wonderful things.

Joe Satriani - Echo

I probably saw Joe play this live w/ this lineup during this era. I saw him for free at a local fair in Pensacola. It was a great show.
This song was part of some weird dreams last night. The dream where the song came in had me and a bunch of other men dressed exactly alike (in tan suits) being lead thru this strange conga line by a bald guy with glasses. Other dreams (what I can remember) involved me at a Christian youth camp where everyone kept moving between worlds where they were either really conservative or really wild and sinful. That dream was disturbing.
The last one I can remember was simple. In it, someone from where I work was asking me about my past and genuinely wanted to hear my story...so I was telling it. No one has ever expressed an interest in me in any way at work. To them, I am nothing but a custodian. It used to bother me a lot. Not so much anymore but I guess it does still bother me if I'm having dreams like this.
Dreams are weird.

Spock's Beard - I'm Dying

I listened thru this whole 2-disc set the other day and it seems to have had a lingering effect. I do love it, though. I listened to it constantly when I first bought it but finally put it aside for a few years. When I listened to it the other day, it was like hearing it with fresh ears.

Spock's Beard - Carie

I listened to this yesterday so it was fresh on my brain. "Welcome to NYC" from the same album also popped in for a visit this morning.

Little Feat - Time Loves A Hero

The 'Nauts were listening to Waiting for Columbus during last night's collage session. That's more than likely why this song was stuck on my brain this morning.

Kansas - Windows

Today marks a year that I have been recording my morning songs. I thought that I might learn something about myself but I really haven't. I feel like my brain is a combination sponge/jukebox. I've soaked in all this music over the years and now my brain spits them out at random. Some songs repeat...quite often actually. Today's song has been on the blog at least 3 times. Part of that has to do with where I hear my music. Spotify has been a great way for me to reconnect w/ music I haven't listened to in a while and new music I've never heard. I have played and overplayed some old favorites from the past and they have dominated the blog. (Nik Kershaw, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult)
Will I keep doing this? I think I will. It doesn't do a thing for me or anyone who's following but it does serve one purpose: getting the song out of my head so I can start my day.

Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes - Time of my Life

This song ties in with a dream but I can't remember what the dream was about. Sorry about the Spanish subtitles. It's the only video I could find w/ no advertising attached to it.

Freedom

I woke up with an original ditty in my head this morning. I was dreaming about a religious, idealistic guy who loses his faith and becomes a hero of sorts (and later, a villain). This dream was steeped in fantasy elements as well as time-travel. The song was running pretty much as a loop when I woke up. The words were: Freedom. Freedom today. Oh, freedom. Carry us away. Brilliant, eh? And, who knows? It might not be an original song. I might have heard it somewhere and it just stuck in my subconscious. Okay, I just Googled it and didn't find anything so I guess I'm safe to say it's mine. Good thing, too. It's gonna win a Grammy some day. Wait and see.

I forgot to post this morning and now I can't remember the song. If it comes to me, I'll post it later.

Ace of Base - I Saw the Sign

We watched "Pitch Perfect" last night and this song figured prominently in the film so, obviously, I woke up w/ it in my head this morning. Ugh.

Frank Zappa & Britney Spears - Pre-Trash Bathroom

Thank goodness this doesn't really exist. It's just the product of my strange dreamscapes. Even while I was dreaming it, I recall thinking, "Why would Frank lower himself this way?" Ugh. It hurts me to think I put Frank in this position...even if it was just a dream. As for the title, I pictured Spears on stage singing, "Don't treat me like a pre-trash bathroom" as Frank accompanied on guitar and a weird-looking guy in makeup kept screaming in Britney's face. Whatever I ate last night to give me this dream needs to go on the No Eat List.

Styx - Boat On The River

I woke up w/ a stupid song about a fat guy from a radio podcast I listen to. Since it's not available for posting, I'll go w/ the other song that popped into my head this morning. The funny things is, I haven't been listening to Styx at all lately.

Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were A Goat When You Walked In

Let me just say that I don't listen to Taylor Swift but the goat thing is hilarious. Too bad it got stuck in my head this morning. Bah.

Beethoven - Pastoral Symphony (1st Movement)

This was all part of a dream, the background music I suppose. In the dream, I was travelling on a giant bus that had a labyrinth of rooms and levels. It seemed almost "Alice in Wonderland"-ish while I was moving from room to room. In the end, I was just trying to find my way out. I finally did and I think the music played there. At the end, I (or the character I was in the dream) was embraced by friends & family (and licked by a dog at one point).

Toto - Change of Heart

See video from previous day. I hate repeats but they happen sometimes. I guess my brain is on a loop.

Magic Pie - Freakshow

I couldn't find the first song I woke up with. All I had in my head was an organ riff and I couldn't figure out which song it was. So, here is the second song.

REO Speedwagon - Unidentified Flying Tuna Trot & Beastie Boys - Fight for Your Right (to Party)

REO was on my brain the first time I woke up this morning.
The second time, it was "Fight for your Right to Party" but it wasn't the Beastie Boys performing it. It was AC/DC. I saw it in my dream. I'd like to see it for real.
